Issue # 13 - Finding Joy in the Fire

We live in a time when many people are carrying heavy burdens. Some face health challenges, financial pressures, family struggles, loneliness, grief, or uncertainty about the future. It is easy to become discouraged when trials come our way.

Yet God’s Word reminds us that our struggles are not meaningless. They are often the very places where our faith is strengthened, refined, and revealed.

And let’s be honest—trials are hard.

As I write this, I find myself in a season of uncertainty as well. One of the hardest times in my life. Like many of you, I am learning what it means to trust God when the path ahead is not completely clear. Some days faith comes easily; other days it requires a conscious decision to place my worries into God’s hands and trust Him one more day. And it’s not easy.

The Bible compares our faith to gold refined by fire. Gold does not become pure without heat. The refining process is uncomfortable, even painful. Yet the fire is not meant to destroy the gold—it is meant to remove the impurities and reveal something more valuable.

The same is true for us.

What encourages me most is knowing that God never leaves us in the fire alone. When we feel weak, He sustains us. When we feel overwhelmed, He carries us. When we stumble, He holds us up. The trial may not end as quickly as we hope, but His presence remains constant through every step.

As a church family, we have the privilege of walking alongside one another. A prayer, a kind word, a listening ear, or a simple act of encouragement can remind someone that they are not alone in their struggle.

If you are going through a difficult season today, hold on to your faith. Trust that God is still at work, even when you cannot see the outcome. The fire may be refining you, but it is not consuming you. Our loving Savior is holding you up, and He promises never to let go.

“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” - 1 Peter 1:6-7
