ABOUT THE JOY DIACONATE
The diaconate has existed for over 2,000 years with the primary biblical mission of “waiting on tables.” In Acts 6:1-8, the diaconate was established to relieve tensions between Hellenistic and native Jews and to assist in the equitable distribution of food to widows, ensuring justice and fairness in mercy gifts. In a similar spirit, the Board of Deacons at JOY was formed in 2016 with the mission of serving those in our community who are facing difficult circumstances. We provide practical acts of mercy and compassion while also supporting the Council of Elders in meeting the ministry and administrative needs of the church. Currently, the JOY Diaconate consists of twelve deacons who are actively involved in various aspects of our congregation’s life.
THE DIACONATE BENEVOLENCE FUND
The deacons oversee the Diaconate Benevolence Fund, which was launched in 2021 in response to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. This fund provides financial support to JOY members experiencing hardship or crisis, helping to cover basic living expenses such as housing, food, utilities, medical bills, and more. We are committed to walking alongside those in need, offering support through struggles, and relying on God’s strength and wisdom throughout the journey. The Diaconate works closely with individuals to assess their needs, provide guidance, and offer follow-up support to monitor progress and address any additional challenges.
OTHER WAYS DEACONS HELP
In addition to the Diaconate Fund, here are some of the ways we assist our congregation:

Next Generation Mentorship

Deacons can serve in one or more of these areas with oversight from an elder and a pastor.
